Neurofeedback Sessions

Neurofeedback for lasting well-being.

Discover the power of Neurofeedback

THE Neurofeedback, also called NeuroTherapy or NeuroTraining, is a non-invasive approach that uses advanced technology to monitor and train brain activity.

Through Neurofeedback, it is possible to observe in real time how the brain works and train it to operate in a more balanced and efficient way.

Our difference:

We combine Neurofeedback and Somatic Psychotherapy

“Training the brain is essential, but connecting this training with emotions and the body makes all the difference!”

In the Mentara, we do not limit ourselves to offering Neurofeedback sessions. Our fundamental difference lies in fusion of Neurofeedback with Somatic Psychotherapy, an approach that not only teaches your brain to function better, but also helps unlock repressed emotions and unconscious patterns that influence your life.

Neurofeedback + Somatic Psychotherapy

Training the brain is essential. Integrating it with emotions is transformative.

THE combination of Neurofeedback and Psychotherapy offers a powerful approach to therapeutic transformation. While the Psychotherapy promotes a space for reflection and emotional resignification, working on beliefs, traumas and behavior patterns, Neurofeedback acts directly on cerebral self-regulation, helping the brain to optimize its functioning.

Neurofeedback can accelerate and deepen the therapeutic process, making the client more emotionally regulated, with a greater capacity for introspection and adaptive response. This synergy is particularly effective in conditions such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), ADHD and insomnia, allowing for more effective and sustainable work, where the mind and brain learn together.

By integrating both approaches, we create a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment, where the client can explore their process with trust and ongoing support. We believe in a humanistic and empathic bond, respecting the rhythm and individuality of each person, favoring transformation into a space for active listening and emotional validation.

That way, we promote change at a neurophysiological and psychological level, promoting more results long-lasting, balanced and integrative.

That's why At Mentara, we don’t just treat the mind – we help transform your life completely.

A sentence that sums up the potential of Neurofeedback, from Dr Frank Duffy, Professor and Pediatric Neurologist at Harvard Medical School (published in the editorial of the journal Clinical Electroencephalography in 2000)

“Neurofeedback should play an important therapeutic role in many difficult areas. In my opinion, if any drug had demonstrated such a broad spectrum of efficacy, it would be universally accepted and widely used. It is a field that should be taken seriously by everyone.”

Benefits

Neurofeedback can bring numerous benefits to those suffering from emotional, cognitive and behavioral difficulties. The main ones include:

Who is it suitable for?

Neurofeedback can be used by anyone who wants to improve their mental well-being and performance, but it is especially recommended for:

  • People with anxiety and chronic stress
  • Children and adults with concentration difficulties and ADHD
  • Anyone who has insomnia or sleep disorders
  • Professionals who want to optimize their cognitive performance
  • People who want to improve emotional balance

How does it work?

The Neurofeedback process is simple and comfortable:

  1. Measuring Brain Activity: Small sensors (electrodes) are placed on the scalp to capture the brain's electrical activity, similar to an electroencephalogram (EEG).
  2. Interaction with Real-Time Feedback: The patient sees a game, movie, or graphic that responds to his or her brain activity. When the brain achieves desired patterns, it receives positive reinforcement (e.g., the image becomes clearer or the patient hears a sound).
  3. Learning and Self-Regulation: With training, the brain learns to maintain these healthy patterns even without feedback, resulting in lasting improvement.

Carlos Alves

Your path in Neurofeedback began in 2020, motivated by the need to better understand how the brain works and find natural solutions for emotional regulation, anxiety and stress. What began as a personal quest quickly became a passion, leading him to further his studies and specialize in the field.

Since then, it has been carried out hundreds of Neurofeedback sessions, initially with family and friends, and continued his training with some of the greatest international experts, including Dr. Richard McAllister.

Your approach combines science, technology and clinical experience to help its clients optimize brain function, improve their quality of life and achieve a sustainable emotional balance.

Over the last few years, Carlos Alves has completed several training courses in the USA to consolidate and deepen his knowledge in Neurofeedback and QEEG, including: Initial Training and Specialization in Neurofeedback; Advanced Training in QEEG, Brodmann Areas and sLORETA; Intensive Training for EEG/QEEG Certification and EEG/QEEG Neuromodulation, having learned from internationally renowned professionals such as Thomas Collura Ph.D., LPCC, QEEG-D, BCN; Robert Turner MD, BCN, QEEG-D; David Cantor Ph.D., QEEG-D, BCN; P. David Ims LCPC, BCN, QEEG-D; Richard McAllister DC, QEEG-D, BCN; Jeff Reich QEEG-D, BCN and Thomas Brownback QEEG-D, BCN. In addition to ongoing training, he has the mentorship of Dr. Richard McAllister, a specialist based in New Jersey, USA.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How does a Neurofeedback session work?

During the session, sensors are placed on the head to record brain activity. The patient interacts with visual or audio stimuli that adjust brain activity in real time, helping the brain learn new, healthier patterns. The process is painless, non-invasive and completely safe.

The number of sessions may vary from person to person, but significant improvements are typically seen after 10 to 20 sessions. In more complex cases, longer follow-up may be recommended.
No. Neurofeedback is a safe and natural process, as it simply trains the brain to improve its functioning. Some people may experience mild fatigue or deep relaxation after the first few sessions, but this is part of the brain's adaptation to new, more balanced patterns.

Yes, in many cases the benefits are long-lasting. Because Neurofeedback teaches the brain to self-regulate, the gains achieved tend to be maintained over time. However, periodic reinforcements can be recommended to optimize results, especially in more complex situations.

Yes! Neurofeedback is safe for all ages and can be very effective in children and adolescents, especially for difficulties such as ADHD, anxiety, learning disabilities, and emotional regulation.
Yes! In addition to helping with emotional and neurological challenges, Neurofeedback can enhance cognitive functions such as memory, focus, decision-making, and creativity, and is even used by athletes and high-performance professionals.
